I had the pleasure to see the Peppers on the 10th of June 2004 at the Aerodrome Rock Festival Wiener Neustadt.
It was really a great festival and a really great show of the Peppers. The Festival was really great! The weather was fine and the festival field, the atmosphere and the headline was also great!
It started about twelve o clock. I think the festival was really good with the "Toten Hosen". It is a very popular and good German Punk band.
After them the Pixies went on stage. I'm very happy that I have seen the Pixies because I really like them and the show was great and I think that the show was one of the last of the Pixies.
And after that the Chilis came on stage. I loved the atmosphere. It was the first time I saw the Chilis and I think the amazing thing on this band is the atmosphere.
The Peppers are the only band which had those four screens behind them. They are great for the atmosphere.
During the show I had forgotten that I was in Austria standing in Wiener Neustadt. I thought I was in L.A., California seeing the Peppers live. That was really great for me!
The show started with an amazing intro to Can't Stop. Can't Stop was also very good.
Then John peformed one of his solo songs. I really love John's music and him and so it was beautiful for me to hear the song.
Then they played "Scar Tissue"...and after "Scar Tissue", Flea played a great bass solo and intro to "Around The World".
The atmosphere and the energy of the band was incredible. "By The Way" followed "Around The World". The outro of "By The Way" was really good.
Then Flea talked as I said it from the Sex Pistols...he said it's an unreleased song. You know he just joked around and they played "Brandy".
I loved the version of the song...I have forgotten "Easily"..that song really rocked!!!
I liked "Otherside" very much because it's one of my favourite ones of the Peppers and I liked to see John with his Gretsch White Falcon guitar..I love this guitar and I'm also playing guitar so it was much fun for me.
They played all these songs which are in the setlist. All were very good.
I think worth mentioning is that John talked a lot about Johnny Ramone...He said that he was very ill in L.A. in a hospital and he said that we should send him our positive energy by saying "WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY"...It was great. And Anthony climbed by singing "Californication" on the top of the Stage. The stage was very high, I think 20 meters! You have to imagine: Anthony Kiedis on the top of the very high Aerodrome stage singing the refrain of "Californication" for 160000 people who were looking at him!! Great!
The funny thing was that John, Flea and Chad first didn't notice that Anthony was climbing the stage. So they didn't know why all these people suddenly where cheering.
The new songs of the Peppers were great and also the song from 1983 was great it was a typical punk rock song. Chad's solo and the jam, which lasted about 20 minutes were also on of the climaks of this great festival and show!
The Peppers told us that they like Austria and the the that the crowd was great and so they will visit us more often..not only every 10 years...!
Next there were a lot of metal bands like Korn, Slipknot and Metallica ...but the best one where the Peppers!
A great Festival with great and friendly people, great bands and great performances!
I wished that 10th of June could happen again!
